Red Mule Ranch Mission: RMR Horse Sanctuary was established to provide a transitional pasture home, natural horsemanship retraining, and placement services for non-racing Standardbreds.

RMR Horse Sanctuary is located on the scenic Red Mule Ranch in Fiddletown, CA. The horses are able to spend time running and grazing in large pastures before they start their retraining program. We will look for suitable, caring homes for our wonderful, big-hearted, hard working horses.

ABOUT US
Shari and Lehigh Shari Click – In 1999 I met “River City Speed” when it was determined that he would not be successful on the track. He was just two years old. He was renamed “Lehigh” after the person who made our connection possible. This was the first Standardbred I ever had the pleasure to get to know. We have since spent hundreds of hours out on the trails and he brings true joy to my life. In 2007, I decided it was time for me to do my part to help place more Standardbreds into a new “after-track” life. PastureMy parents already owned beautiful pastureland in Fiddletown that just needed some new fencing and more horses! Lehigh and I live in Santa Cruz, California.
Horses will first spend time in the RMR pastures “unwinding” from their time at the track. Then when they are ready for retraining, they will come to Santa Cruz.

Ron and Marie Scofield Ron and Marie Scofield own Red Mule Ranch in Fiddletown, California. They have both loved and owned horses since they were very young. They drove a team of red mules, Jim and John, from California to Pennsylvania in the Bicentennial Wagon Train in 1976; a trip that took 6 months. Ron makes his living building and restoring wagons and carriages in the wagon shop at the ranch. They host several Cowboy Poetry events at the ranch each year.
